Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
ClearinghouseWho funded the Clearinghouse in 2007-2008?Funding for the period 2007-2008 was provided by: South Florida Water Management District, St. Johns River Water Management District, FS/AWWA, FDEP, and Florida Water Environment Association. EZ GuideWhy can't I open the Office 2007 Guide Version? Or why does it open as a Zip File? Some short background: the new MS Office formats (starting with 2007) *are*, in actuality, zip files. That?s why you can open and view them with an unzipping utility (Windows has one built-in now).
What?s happening on your computer is that the new office file extensions (.xlsx and .xlsm) are incorrectly associated with your Zip utility. This means that they are being displayed as zip files by default. I?d guess this happened before your computer was upgraded to the new Office.
Short term solution: Open Excel, select file/open (or the Pearl button/open on the new menu bar), and select the EZGuide file. You will have to change the box on the lower right to ?All Files? to see the file, and accept the warning from Excel that the file type doesn?t match the extension when it asks you.
Long term solution: Reassociate .xlsm and.xlsx files with MS Office as default. Your IT staff should be able to help you with that. If not, below are instructions for changing a file association:
"Change the program that starts when you open a file"
Many types of files are registered in Windows Vista and Windows XP to be opened by a particular program. For example, Notepad typically starts when you open a text (.txt) file. However, you can change which program - including the default settings - opens files of a certain type by doing one of the following:
Windows Vista
- Click the Start button Button image, and then click Default Programs.
- In the Default Programs window, click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
- In the Set Associations window, select the file type you want to open with a different program in the Name column, and then click Change program.
- In the Open With dialog box, select the program you want to use, and then click OK.
Microsoft Windows XP
1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the File Types tab.
2. In the Registered file types list, click the file type you want to open with a different program, and then click Change.
3. In the Open With dialog box, select the program you want to use, and then click OK.
4. In the Folder Options dialog box, click OK.
